Give Us a Break Scheme
Bath and North East Somerset has been awarded more than £600,000 in funding from the Department of Health for a new scheme called ‘Give us a break' which will develop new ways of providing short breaks for carers.
‘Give us a break' will support carers to take time out for themselves, offering a menu of leisure and learning activities, such as adult education courses, support to get fit, music, arts activities, reading groups and access to activities run by Bath and North East Somerset's Heritage Services. Carers will be able to choose what fits best with their interests. All activities will be free and the funding will also cover replacement care so that carers can access these opportunities. Carers can choose to attend with the person they care for if they wish.
The scheme is open to anyone who provides regular unpaid care for someone else, such as a family member, friend or a neighbour - even if the person being cared for is not currently receiving support from Social Services, or is paying for their care themselves.
