Arts and Design

The Art, Design and Craft courses at City of Bath College are one of our greatest strengths. We offer a varied range of courses for all abilities, from fine art and illustration through to jewellery, sculpture and photography. The Art and Design department received a grade of 1 (outstanding) in our last Ofsted inspection. This is the third consecutive time the department has received the highest grade. These courses are very popular. To avoid disappointment, we advise that you book your place early.

Art Therapy - An Introduction

This 5 week course offers an introductory experience to Art Therapy. An exploratory investigation of theraputic image making. This programme is run by experienced Art Therapists and is a taster for those wishing to know more about the subject.

Art History and Contextual Studies - NEW January start

Aimed at anyone who has ever wondered what it's all about. This fun and informative 5 week course will give you a potted history of art from the Impressionists through to Andy Warhol.

Art for Beginners

These popular programmes are designed to give you a starting point from where you can explore your creativity.

Bookbinding NEW January start

This programme is designed to enable students to explore the traditional art of bookbinding.

Ceramics - SEE NEW COURSES - January Start

Ever wanted to have a go at hand building or throwing on the potter's wheel? Have a go at one of these workshops, create your own designs and learn about ways of obtaining colour and glazing. But watch out, these courses are addictive, you may be back for more!

Creative Mac for Graphic Design - NEW January Start

This course is designed to introduce you to creative ways of using the Mac.

Creative Embroidery - NEW classes

Investigate the diverse arena of contemporary embroidery and stitch techniques and surface design media.

Creative Writing - SHORT STORIES January Start

Learn the basics of short story writing; how to capture mood and character and how to build a scenario that will engage an audience.

Glass

Explore the beauty of glass in its many colours and forms through our range of stained glass or kiln fired glass courses. New to this series is our glass mosaic workshop - a one day introduction to traditional and contemporary creations in glass mosaics.

Illustration

This course aims to introduce a variety of mark-making and drawing techniques to support narrative and meaning. Students will also have the opportunity to digitally manipulate imagery.

Jewellery

Want to learn essential skills to making your own jewellery? Whilst fine metal underpins much jewellery practice, you will have the opportunity to work with a range of materials, techniques and processes to develop your own design ideas for jewellery.

Life Drawing, Painting and Portraiture

Would you like to develop your drawing and painting skills? These courses are perfect for students of all levels of ability. They will give you opportunities to explore and develop skills in representation of the human form. These courses are also helpful for portfolio building.

Fashion Design and Textiles - NEW classes

This series of courses takes you through the exploration of fashion and textiles through individual projects, the oportunity to develop pattern cutting skills, the art of hat making and an introduction to felting... be creative!

Fine Art

These courses offer an opportunity to extend and develop your skills. They are for all levels of ability, so if you are a beginner or have lots of experience, why not see what you can achieve?

Painting

Would you like to discover and explore your own painting skills? These courses give you the opportunity to try different approaches and discover the joy of painting.

Photography - SEE NEW COURSES

Whether you want to learn how to operate a 35mm SLR or find your way around your digital camera, these courses will help you to use your kit to take good photographs and how to tidy them up in Photoshop.

Printmaking including NEW Japanese Woodblock printing

Turn your creative skills to the art of Printmaking. On these courses, you will be able to explore techniques and processes which will help you to produce exciting prints.

Picture Framing for Beginners

This programme offers students the opportunity to learn the basics of picture framing. You will explore simple frame construction along with the practical information you need to enhance your art work. This course is running in conjunction with The Framing Workshop, Walcot Street, Bath.

Sculpture

Explore a range of sculptural concepts whilst developing your skills in this gloriously tactile subject.

Silversmithing

Silversmithing is a generic name for the making of designs using a wide range of metals such as copper alloys, pewter, steel, refractory metals and of course silver. The possibilites are endless; what are you going to create?

Foundation Art, Fine & Applied Art

These courses can give you the qualification to give credit to your creative skills. Places on these courses are very popular so early application is advisable.
