Music and Performing Arts
Tempa
Tempa is an entertainment industry production house that offers qualifications to those wishing to enter the entertainment industry as a performer, musician, technician, media producer or filmmaker.
tempa runs a vocational learning model based on professional project-based engagements. This means we operate to produce entertainment industry products whilst responding to commissions from external partners as well as producing our own shows and events.
Under the tempa umbrella there exists 7 creative production outlets.
These are:
Bladud, an on-line magazine and print-publishing company
tempa film & tv productions
HotBath Theatre Company
D-Pod Dance Company
BA1 Records
tempa FM, an on-line radio channel
1UP, a marketing & public relations company.
These companies are managed by teams of industry professionals and lecturers and content is produced through collaboration between our company members consisting of actors, dancers, musicians, web developers, filmmakers, broadcasters, etc. under the direction of a project director. The ethos at tempa is that we are a community of talents.
Company members have short-term performance agreements with these creative units and they are expected to fulfill each engagement professionally whilst meeting their individual performance targets before having their agreement at tempa extended. Also, because of the commitment and time put into rehearsals, skills development, productions and events, etc. there is an expectation that members will work outside of company hours catching up with written work. This is what true vocationally based learning means; you do the job and you do the coursework. Our expectations are very high and so should be those of young people who want to get on in this highly competitive world.
tempa will widen your skill set around you as a media producer or performer and you will need to adopt an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to working on projects, at tempa performers learn media production skills and media producers develop presentation skills. These are major contributing factors to being successful when you leave and compete for jobs or places at universities.
‘tempa is not just a place, it's a state of mind’.
