Introduction to Hair & Beauty Level 1
Course details
Number of weeks: 36
Entry requirements
You must be 16 years of age or over. You must attend the college for an interview where you will be expected to take part in a basic skills test. You must have a satisfactory school report for attendance and punctuality and demonstrate sufficient commitment and enthusiasm to succeed within the hairdressing and beauty industry.

- Hairdressing NVQ Level 1
- Introduction to Therapies (Beauty) Certificate Level 1
Aim of the course
This course provides a qualification for an assistant hairdresser and a certificate in introduction to beauty.
Who is the course for?
For 16 year olds interested in a career in hairdressing and beauty.

Course content
These are the units that will be covered in the intro to hair and beauty.
• Shampoo and conditioning
• Colour in the hair and beauty sector
• Introduction to the hair and beauty sector
• Presenting a professional image in the salon
• Styling women's hair
• Plaiting and twisting hair
• Applying basic make up
• Nail art
Additionally, if they are studying Hair as their main subject they will do:
• The art of dressing hair
Or if they are studying Beauty as their main subject they will do:
• The art of photographic make up
Assessment
As with all of our NVQ programmes, you will be assessed on a continuous basis within a realistic working environment. Projects, oral questions, written tests and the production of a portfolio of completed work.
Uniform and equipment required
Students joining hair and beauty programmes are required to purchase a uniform for beauty, 2 uniforms for hairdressing, a basic hairdressing kit, practice blocks and beauty text book at an approximate cost of £300. Order forms will be supplied.
After the course
Students can progress on to Hairdressing NVQ Level 2 or Level 2 Foundations in Beauty & Holistic Therapies course which will provide them with the qualifications necessary to work within the hair or beauty industry.
