The qualification
BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design
Entry requirements
Applicants are aged 16+ and have a minimum of four GCSE passes at grade D or above. Alternatively applicants will be considered with a Foundation level GNVQ or other related Level 1 or 2 qualifications or relevant work experience. Applicants will be invited to attend an interview during which their enthusiasm and commitment concerning their interest in art and design will be explored. Applicants will be asked to bring examples of their art work to the interview.
Aim of the course
The aim of the programme is to give students opportunities to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of art and design and to enable them to progress to further education and training or employment.

The course is for anyone with a love for art and design and a desire to pursue a career in the arts.

Course content
This 36 week course is intended to provide students with a broad general art and design based experience which will offer, upon successful completion, the opportunity to progress to a further full-time level 3 course such as an Extended Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design, Graphic Design or Fashion for example. The course comprises four compulsory core units and two specialist units. The units cover a wide range of art and design processes such as drawing, printmaking, 3D, photography and digital illustration/design. Students will also develop key skills which are integrated into the course.
Assessment
Course work is continuously assessed and externally moderated.
Equipment required
A list of basic materials is sent to successful applicants prior to starting the course.
After the course
The programme will help you to develop a broad portfolio of art and design work and enable you to make informed decisions about your future regarding further training and employment opportunities. Successful students are encouraged to develop their vocational skills.
