What is the aim of the course?
This is a full-time course for learners with an interest in learning how organisations, locally, nationally, and internationally, operate on a day to day basis, and in the key stakeholders, both internally and externally, who impact on them. On completion of the first 5 core units learners can specialise in either a management or marketing focused route for the remaining 5 units. The programme will include regular visits from speakers from key business sectors such as the media, law, and marketing. In addition, there will be visits to important business establishments such as The London Stock Exchange, major retailers such as Marks & Spencer, and local advertising agencies.

What is the content of the course?
The course is made up of 8 units listed below which collectively offer coverage of a broad range of business concepts, theories and processes offering candidates a wide knowledge base in the subject. Each unit is individually assessed allowing the candidate to develop a comprehensive portfolio of work throughout the duration of the course.

Human Resource Management
Advertising and Promotion in Business
Individual Research Project / Work-Based Experience (to be confirmed).
Is there any form of assessment?
There are no exams on this course. All assessment is done by coursework. In some units you may be assessed using case studies, presentations, reports or projects.
What are the entry requirements?
The course is suitable for students who have the appropriate academic background to join a university level programme of studies. The Admissions team is very familiar with international qualifications and each application is individually assessed. For mature candidates, appropriate work experience is considered. Regarding English Language requirements, students will be expected to have achieved one of the following or equivalent
IELTS: 6.0
TOEFL: 80 (internet-based), 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based)
GCSE/IGCSE Grade C
Students who do not meet the English Language entry requirements but have an IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent will need to take an English Language pre-sessional course at the College.
Do I need to provide any equipment or materials?
You will need to buy the recommended core textbooks. Other supplementary reading and materials will be signposted.
What can I do after the course?
Students who successfully complete the HNC in Business could progress to the BTEC Higher National Diploma in Business at the City of Bath College. Students will also be able to apply to further undergraduate studies in the UK. The College will assist you to do this.
