Have you got a particular interest in Web Design, Developing Computing Games or Animation Techniques? The BTEC Level 2 First Diploma in IT might be the course for you. There is practical application of theoretical knowledge and the opportunity to excel through the completion of real-life related projects. In addition, this course gives you an introduction to the way computer systems work and other interesting areas of ICT.
Students will develop a range of important industry-relevant skills and techniques as well as personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in life and a career in the exciting and ever-growing IT and Computing industry.

Entry requirements
You will need 4 GCSEs at grade D or above including Maths and/or English at minimum grade D, or a full relevant level 1 qualification at merit grade with literacy and numeracy at an appropriate level and a recommendation from your tutor
Aim of the course
The BTEC Level 2 First Diploma for IT aims to provide:
- education and hands-on practical to become a trainee IT employee
- opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised Level 2 vocationally specific IT qualification
- opportunity to enter employment in the IT sector or to progress to vocational qualifications such as the IT Nationals Level 3
- opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.
Who is the course for?
The course is suitable for students who are interested in IT, in particular, those who want to develop specific IT hands-on skills in Web design, animation and computer games. In addition, this course will help you to develop your knowledge about how computer works and how IT is used in industry. However, if you are unsure whether a career in software or hardware is for you, this course will also help you to decide which path to choose.

Course Content
You will study a range of IT units including: Website Development, Animation Techniques, Developing Mobile Communications, Technology Computer Games, Computer Systems and Working in the IT Industry and more.
Assessment
The course is assessed using a set of work-related real-life assignments. There will be practical assessments throughout the course where appropriate. There are no exams but you must meet deadlines set for each assignment.
Equipment required
IT equipment required for the course is provided by the College. However, it would be an advantage if you have a PC with compatible software at home for independent study and to help you meet the deadlines. You will be required to purchase the relevant text book for the course
After the course
The course provides opportunities for learners to gain a nationally recognised level 2 IT qualifications to enter employment in the IT related sector. Some students may opt to progress to more advanced qualifications e.g. BTEC Nationals Level 3 in IT or other related subjects.
Frequently asked questions
The BTEC First Diploma in IT is a newly updated qualification. Throughout the course you will enjoy a range of teaching and learning techniques that include both practical and researching activities. These are aimed to closely resemble real-life situations. There are no exams and assignments and sometimes practical are set throughout each unit. It is important to meet all your deadlines. We will encourage you to achieve the highest possible level on your IT First Diploma and your progress will be tracked and discussed during the weekly tutorials as well with your unit lecturer.
