Entry requirements
You will need 4 GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths; or a full level 2 qualification at merit grade with literacy and numeracy at an appropriate level and a recommendation from your tutor.
Aim of the course
The BTEC National Level 3 in IT Practitioners is a suite of courses which offer learners a wide range of opportunities to learn and experience different aspects of the IT industry. The suite is made up of BTEC National Award, Certificate and/or Diploma.

The course is made up of a range of IT and computing related units, including: Developing Computer Games, Web Design, Computer Systems, Managing Networks, Computer Networks, Communication Technologies, IT Technical Support, IT Systems Troubleshooting and Repair, Software Design & Development, Information Systems, Event Driven Programming, Systems Analysis and Design and more.
Assessment
The course is assessed using a set of work-related real-life assignments and practical issued throughout the course. There are no exams, but you must meet deadlines set for each assignment.
Equipment required
IT equipment required for the course is provided by the College. However,it would be an advantage if you have a PC at home for independent study so you can meet the deadlines. You will be required to purchase the relevant text book for the course.
After the course
On successful completion of the course, you can progress on to Higher Education such as Foundation Degree in Computing or in related subjects. The BTEC Nationals in IT is well-respected by industry professionals and could lead to employment opportunities in a range of cutting edge jobs in many IT and computing, industrial and commercial sectors.

The BTEC Nationals are newly updated qualifications. Throughout the course you will enjoy a range of teaching and learning techniques that include both practical and researching activities. These are aimed to closely resemble real-life situations. There are no exams and assignments as well as practical, where appropriate, are set throughout each unit. It is important to meet all your deadlines. We will encourage you to achieve the highest possible level on your IT Nationals and your progress will be tracked and discussed during the weekly tutorials as well with your unit lecturer.
