Level 2 Award, Certificate, Diploma in Floristry
Aim of the course
This is a practical and theory course which will introduce you to floristry skills. It is suited to school leavers and adults who have little or no experience within the industry and are seeking to develop a career in floristry. Working with fresh flowers you will learn a range of traditional and contemporary designs.
Course content
Nine units:
Introduction to art and design for florists
Identify, check and monitor the quality of incoming cut materials
Identify and maintain the condition of plants and planted designs
Plan, prepare and construct tied floristry designs
Plan, prepare and construct funeral designs
Plan, prepare and construct floral arrangements
Plan, prepare and construct wedding designs with floral material
Display of floristry goods
Introduction of working in the industry
Introduction to function decorating using floral displays
Introduction to balloon artistry
To join the course
Three GCSEs at D or above, or equivalent qualifications. Mature learners with life experience will also be invited for interview.
Course length
One year.
Methods of study
Practical work in the floristry workroom, supported by some theory lessons. Industry visits and work placements form an important part of the course.
Assessment
Practical assessments throughout the year plus a multiple-choice online test at the end of the course.
Are there any extra costs?
Resources fee and kit plus trips including Holland and London.
Moving on to another course or career
Students move on to the Award, Certificate, Diploma in Floristry Level 3 or a career in retail floristry or in a related service industry, such as interior design and hotel and event decoration.
