Level 1 Award, Certificate, Diploma in Land based Studies Floristry (0361)
Aim of the course
The aim of the qualification is to provide a sound knowledge and skills base in Floristry which can progress to further learning or qualifications, or to improve employment opportunities. This is a one year course, 2 days a week.
The Course
This programme consists of units which provide an introduction to the Florist industry, with an emphasis on practical skills acquisition, portfolio-building and development of ‘life skills'.
Course Content
Unit 101: Safe and effective working practices in land-based industries
Unit 102: Develop performance in land-based industries
Unit 112: Carry out basic floristry tasks
Unit 113: Identify flowers, foliages and plants
Unit 114: Produce and maintain shop displays
Unit 115: Produce planted designs
Unit 116: Assemble basic floral designs
Functional Skills - English, Maths and IT at a minimum level of entry Level 3
Assessment
Students will be assessed in a variety of ways:
By carrying out a range of practical activities as an ongoing assessment
Building a portfolio of written and illustrated evidence which will be graded pass, merit or distinction
A Multiple choice test that covers the knowledge and understanding of unit 101.
Qualifications
Success in this course leads to the nationally recognised:
Level 1 Award, Certificate, Diploma in Land-based Studies Floristry (0361)
Progression
On completion of the course, successful students may be eligible to enrol on the Award, Certificate, Diploma in Floristry Level 2. This will be subject to the overall grade achieved for the Level 1 Diploma, satisfactory numeracy and literacy levels and interview.
Entry Requirements
Prospective students should have a minimum of Entry 3 Maths and English or GCSEs at grades E- F. A willingness and commitment to learn new skills is essential. All potential candidates are required to have a formal interview
