Pathways to Employment and Training (PET) - Level 1
Course Details
The qualification
A range of qualifications are studied these include: Functional Skills in English and ICT, as well as a BTEC Diploma in Vocational Studies. PET is a practical, hands-on programme giving you a chance to study different vocational subjects for 10 week blocks.
Entry requirements
You do not need any formal qualifications to apply for this course, although you will need to attend an interview.
Aim of the course
The Pathways to Employment and Training programme is a level 1 full time programme for people who have left school with low grade or no GCSE qualifications. The course lasts for 1 year and aims to help you achieve the qualifications you need to progress onto a level 2 programme or into employment.
During the year you study for a BTEC Introductory Diploma in Vocational studies and Functional Skills qualifications in English and ICT. The Diploma is made up of units from construction, engineering, sport, land, hospitality, ICT, art, performaing arts, business, travel, tourism and finally health and social care. You choose what subjects you would like to study and can change subjects each term.
All applicants will be interviewed.
The Pathways to Employment and Training (PET) course is for students who want to obtain qualifications that are widely recognized and will enable further opportunities to work or study in an area that interests you.
Awarding body
At the end of the course, you will achieve a BTEC Introductory Diploma in Vocational Studies from Edexcel plus additional skills based qualifications.
Course content
The course has a two week induction when you can try different vocational areas followed by three ten week blocks working in your chosen areas. You can study 3 or more vocational areas, throughout the year with an opportunity to specialise.
There is an emphasis on practical hands-on activities, developing technical skills knowledge, essential and employment skills.
Assessment
All units are internally assessed and subject to external verification. Each unit is graded using Pass, Merit and Distinction.
Your work is assessed by building a portfolio of evidence for the BTEC. Exams are taken for Functional Skills ICT and English.
Equipment required
Equipment requirements are dependent on the vocational choices made during the course.
After the course
After completing the Pathways to Employment and Training (PET) course you could go on to a Level 2 courses within the College or apply for an apprenticeship programme or work.
