Number of weeks: 36
Entry requirements
You must be 16 years of age or over. 4 GCSEs at G or above or equivalent. Evidence of ability to work at level 1.
You must attend the college for an interview where you will be expected to take part in a basic skills test. You must have a satisfactory school report for attendance and punctuality and demonstrate sufficient commitment and enthusiasm to suceed within the hairdressing and beauty industry.

- Level 1 Diploma in An Introduction to Hair and Beauty sector
Aim of the course
It provides an introduction to the Hair and Beauty sector and gives progression the hairdressing and beauty level 2 qualification.
Who is the course for?
For 16 year olds interested in a career in hairdressing and beauty.

Depending on which route you take the following units are available. Units will be finalised at interview.
Introduction to the hair and beauty sector
Presenting professional image in a salon
Shampoo and conditioning
Colour in the Hair and Beauty Sector
Skin Care
Hand Care
Styling women's Hair
Plaiting and Twisting hair
Applying Basic Make-up
Themed Face Painting
Nail Art
The Art of Dressing Hair
Assessment
You will be assessed on a continuous basis within a realistic working environment. Projects, oral questions, written tests and the production of a portfolio of completed work.
Uniform and equipment required
Students joining hair and beauty programmes are required to purchase a uniform and basic hair or beauty kit. Order forms will be sent out during the summer.
After the course
Students can progress on to Hairdressing, Beauty or Complementary therapy programmes which will provide them with the qualifications necessary to work in one of these industries.
