The qualification
NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing
Entry requirements
4 GCSEs at Grade D or above in English and Maths. You must attend the college for an interview here you will be expected to taken part in a basic skills test. A good record of attendance & punctuality is essential. You should also have a good school report & reference, together with a high level of commitment & enthusiasm to succeed within the industry.
Aim of the course
A one year intensive hairdressing programme which provides a foundation qualification in basic ladies hairdressing.
Who is the course for?
This course provides a follow on from Introduction in Hairdressing. Older and mature students who demonstrate sufficient commitment & enthusiasm to the hairdressing industry.

Course content
The qualification comprises of units to cover basic practical skills and related underpinning knowledge:
Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety
Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
Advise and consult with clients
Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
Change hair colour
Style and finish hair
Set and dress hair
Cut hair using basic techniques
Fulfil salon reception duties
Promote additional services or products to clients
Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
Plait and twist hair
Perm and neutralise hair
Assessment
As with all of our NVQ programmes, you will be assessed on a continuous basis within a realistic working environment. Projects, oral questions, written tests & the production of a portfolio of completed work.
Equipment required
Students joining hair programmes are required to purchase a uniform, a basic hairdressing kit & practice blocks at an approximate cost of £250.
After the course
Gain employment or continue to extend your skills by enrolling on to Hairdressing NVQ Level 3 or Level 2 Foundations in Beauty & Holistic Therapy.
