Health, Care and Early Years
If you want to work in a professional capacity with children, then a course in children's care, learning and development is your first step in the right direction. You will learn the knowledge and skills required to work in a variety of childcare environments, with theory lessons supported by practical work and regular placements with local employers. Your practical work will be assessed by college tutors and employers. Throughout your course, you will benefit from experienced and understanding teachers, excellent college facilities including high-tech IT suites and strong links with local employers. There is a very good rate of progression to employment in the local Early Years sector or to further study in this field. Career options include jobs such as nursery nurse, teaching/classroom assistant, creche or sessional day care worker, child support worker in the community, nanny or Early Years practitioner working in schools/ private day nurseries, children's centres or neighbourhood nurseries. The National Diploma course leads to Qualified Practitioner Status for the 0-8 age group. Alternatively, many of our students go on to Higher Education courses such as paediatric or adult nursing, midwifery or other general Early Years degree programmes. The Health and Social Care courses will be more suitable if you are thinking of a career in the caring professions in the health and social care sector. You will enjoy all of the benefits of studying in a dynamic department and will be taught by experienced staff with up to date professional experience. You may have thought of a career as a nurse, midwife, paramedic, social worker, physiotherapist or occupational therapist and these courses will help you to realise your ambitions. You will be able to combine theory sessions in college with practical placements with local employers and these courses will prepare you for work in the local health and social care sector or for higher education courses in your chosen career pathway
