BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care
A practical, work-related course that is an introduction to professional work in the Health and Social Care Sector. It is suitable for school leavers and mature learners, with or without care experience.
Course content
Six academic units to study and some opportunity for practical work experience. Topics covered may include:-
• Communication and rights
• Individual needs in Health and Social Care
• Cultural diversity in Health and Social Care
• Vocational experience in Health and Social Care
• Human lifespan development
Health and Social Care services
The qualification
BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care
To join the course
Four GCSEs at D or above; or a BTEC Level 1 Certificate / Diploma in a related subject at Merit level, or relevant work experience. All applicants will require clear Criminal Records Bureau check. Interview with course leader needed.
Course length
One year. Three days in College each week, with some time spent working in health and social care settings during the course.
Methods of study
Classroom based and practical experience working with clients of different ages.
Assessment
Coursework and assessment in childcare settings.
Equipment required
You will need to provide stationery (including pens/paper/glue sticks/plastic wallets etc) and folders for personal use and one or more large files for your completed course work. You will not be expected to purchase a text book for this course but staff will be happy to advise on suitable texts.
Are there any extra costs?
Resources fee. You will also need to purchase a polo shirt to wear in practice and pay the cost of the CRB check.
