Music
BA1 Records gives young musicians the chance to get real life experience of songwriting, recording and performing their songs in a vocational context of a record label. BA1 Records' artist development programme works with singer songwriters and bands in the development of original material, improving performance techniques, marketing and promotion and to release a number of iTunes EPs throughout the two years of the course. In addition, musicians and DJs work with media producers to produce promotional music films and documentaries, photography and interviews for Bladud magazine.
Artists, bands and DJs also have the opportunity to put their tracks forward to perform their work live at industry professional A&R events for BA1 Records with industry judges including Danny Byrd (Hospital), Appleblim (Skull Disco), Gatekeeper (M25), Andy Pemberton (Q Magazine) and local venue owners and promoters. Winners are invited to appear and perform live on radio at local BBC Introducing sessions in Bristol and Wiltshire and at Somer Valley FM.
The aim of BA1 records is to help young musicians go on to hopefully get commercial record deals or employment in the music business and related fields. Recent successes include All Guns Blazing (Rising Records), Julio Bashmore (Dirtybird, Fabric), Grafix (Talkin Beatz & Mainframe), OneTwoThree&In, Gabrielle Aplin (UK Number 1 Unsigned Artist), Twisted Rootz, Tallis Morris, Psalms, Bite the Buffallo, Admiral Spooks and Largo Embargo (area finalists for Live and Unsigned 2010 and appeared at Glastonbury in 2011).
BA1.FM is our brand new online radio station. We have entered into a professional arrangement with Somer Valley FM who will provide training and experience for students that show an interest and aptitude for radio production so that they can take a leading role in creating content for BA1.FM
.
1UP Promotions offers members of BA1 Records a hands-on opportunity to organise and stage live events across Bath and its surrounding areas. Using a range of local venues, artistes are able to plan, promote and market their own gigs taking full responsibility for budgeting, show logistics and promotional media campaigns. As well as giving students a very real experience in the area of promotion, 1UP works side by side with BA1 Records to consolidate and celebrate the wealth of musical talent at tempa. It provides all campus based DJs, singer songwriters and bands with a platform to perform, and the opportunity to book and stage events featuring more established local artists.
A placement within BA1 Records will provide a well-rounded insight into the creative and business aspects of the music industry. There would also be the opportunity to visit shows and exhibitions and travel to London and New York.
