Music and Performing Arts
Music BTEC Level 2 Diploma
This is a one-year course for students interested in the world of popular music or music technology and who wish to develop their basic skills in all areas of the course. Students will be taught how to use web 2.0 technologies in order to produce an online learning blog and as a tool to aid the promotion of their work. Students will also undertake a GCSE or Functional Skills qualification in English or Maths.

One year.
Course content
The course covers a broad range of music performance and music technology areas. Students will be expected to write and produce tracks, rehearse and perform for gigs and will learn about the music industry and how to manage small-scale projects.
Methods of study
A mixture of theoretical and practical learning in the MIDI suite, recording studio and classroom. You will study in class, groups and also individually. Learners are also expected to work independently outside of College hours.
Assessment
Continuous assessment of practical and written work.
To join the course
The minimum entry requirements for this course are three GCSEs at grade D or above plus a successful interview and audition. Candidates will be asked to respond to a set brief and bring this work with them to the interview.
Moving on to another course or career
Many students progress on to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music or Music Technology or on to other Level 3 programmes.
Costs
A studio fee of £90 will be required from students as a contribution towards the cost of course resources.
