Music and Performing Arts
Performing Arts (Acting or Dance) - BTEC Diploma Level 3
This one-year, two A-level equivalent course is suitable for anyone with an interest in working in the Performing Arts profession as an actor or dancer or following further study in a performance-related field. It will also suit anyone looking for a practical, hands-on approach to learning about the Performing Arts.
Students will be taught how to use web 2.0 technologies in order to produce an online learning blog and as a tool to aid the promotion of their work/ showreel. Students will also follow a programme of Functional Skills in English at Level 2.
All students take part in two public performances at local professional theatre spaces such as the Egg Theatre, Bath.
Course length
One year.
Assessment
Assessment is conducted throughout skills workshops, performance against agreed targets and participation in and completion of productions in response to set live briefs during the year whilst working within HotBath Theatre Company or D-Pod. Written journals, evaluations and essays may also form an integral part of the assessment.
To join the course
The minimum entry requirements for this course is four GCSEs at C or above including English Language, or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Distinction level (with at least a Merit in all core units), or equivalent. They must also successfully complete an interview and audition. Only applicants who can demonstrate talent and commitment to their subject and who prove they are capable of collaborating and communicating effectively with other company members will be offered places. Candidates will be asked to respond to a set brief and bring this work with them to the interview.
Moving on to another course or career
Learners successfully completing this programme can go on to the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts in Acting or Dance or on to other Level 3 programmes.
Costs
All company members pay a £90 Resources fee which covers the cost of a T-shirt to be worn at some performances and jazz shoes for movement classes. In addition students are required to provide practical clothing for classes e.g. tracksuit bottoms and t-shirt.
