Performing Arts - BTEC Level 2 Diploma
This is a practical one-year course for students interested in developing their skills in the Performing Arts. The course would suit learners ready to develop their confidence as actors, dancers and singers in a small group. Students will also undertake a GCSE or Functional Skills qualification in English or Maths.
Course length
One year.
Methods of study
Learners will create practical work individually and in small groups for performance, learn set material, take notes during lecture based sessions and complete written assignments. Most lessons are highly practical and physical. Students will be taught how to use web 2.0 technologies in order to produce an online learning blog and as a tool to aid the promotion of their work/showreel.
Assessment
Assessment is continuous throughout lessons and performances during the year. Written journals, evaluations and essays may also form an integral part of the assessment.
Moving on to another course or career
The programme will prepare you to audition for our BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts which can lead to dance or drama college, university or work in the performing arts.
Costs
All company members pay a £90 Resources fee which covers the cost of a T-shirt to be worn at some performances and jazz shoes for movement classes. In addition students are required to provide practical clothing for classes e.g. tracksuit bottoms and t-shirt.
To join the course
Learners must have four GCSEs at grade D or above, or equivalent qualifications. They must also successfully complete an interview and audition. Candidates will be asked to respond to a set brief and bring this work with them to the interview.
Moving on to another course or career
Many learners apply to study on the Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts (Acting or Dance) or for other Level 3 programmes.
