Sport
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Sciences
This is a sports science-based course that combines rigorous academic study with the development of practical skills and knowledge. Practical application of what you learn in the classroom is fundamental to this course. It will equip you with the skills necessary to pursue a career in the Sport, Health, Fitness or Leisure Industries and/or progress on to Higher Education. We also welcome those who simply want to expand their knowledge of sport sciences.
Course content
18 units, including:
• Anatomy for sport
• Team sports and individual sports
• Fitness testing
• Sports injuries and sport massage
• Sports nutrition
• Exercise psychology
• Sports coaching
To join the course
Four GCSEs at C or above (including English, maths, science and/or PE), or the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport at Merit level. A satisfactory reference is also required. Equivalent qualifications will be considered.
Course length
Two years.
Methods of study
You will cover theoretical elements of the course in the classroom, with practical sessions at University of Bath's Sports Training Village.
Assessment
Reports, presentations, posters, leaflets and practical demonstrations (coaching, fitness testing).
Are there any extra costs?
Resources fee. You will also need to have suitable sports clothing - this will include the purchase of at least one College polo shirt. These need to be worn both in practical sessions and classrooms.
Moving on to another course or career
As this course is equivalent to three A-levels, you will be able to access Undergraduate courses, including our Foundation Degrees in Sport (Coaching) or Sport (Health & Fitness). You would also be eligible to enrol onto our costed Level 2 and Level 3 fitness courses. There is the opportunity for
employment in the Sport, Fitness and Leisure Industries, in Careers such as Fitness Instruction, Sports Massage and Sports Coaching.
