Sport
BTEC Level 3 Diploma (Development, Coaching & Fitness)
Designed for people who are interested in working in sports development, the Fitness Industry, or Sports Coaching, this course enhances opportunities for a professional career in these areas. It will also equip you with the skills necessary to progress onto various Undergraduate courses, e.g. Foundation Degrees. Practical application of what you learn in the classroom is fundamental to this course. We also welcome those who simply want to expand their knowledge of sport.
Course content
12 units, including:
• Sports development
• Technical and tactical skills
• Fitness testing for sport and exercise
• Sports injuries
• Sports nutrition
• Psychology for sports performance
• Sports coaching
To join the course
Four GCSEs at grade C or above (including English, maths, science and/or PE), or the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport at Merit level. A satisfactory reference is also required. Equivalent qualifications will be considered.
Course length
Two years.
Methods of study
You will cover theoretical elements of the course in the classroom, with practical sessions in the Sports Training Village at University of Bath.
Assessment
Reports, presentations, posters, leaflets and practical demonstrations (coaching, fitness testing).
Are there any extra costs?
Resources fee. You will also need to have suitable sports clothing - this will include the purchase of at least one College polo shirt. These need to be worn both in practical sessions and classrooms.
Moving on to another course or career
As this course is equivalent to three A-levels, you will be able to access Undergraduate courses, including our Foundation Degrees in Sport (Coaching) or (Health & Fitness). You would also be eligible to enrol onto our costed Level 2 and Level 3 fitness courses. There is the opportunity for
employment in the Sport, Fitness and Leisure Industries, as a Sports Development Officer, Sports Coach or Fitness Instructor
