Sport
BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Sport and Leisure
Designed as a first step for people with an interest in working in the Sport and/or Leisure Industry, this course will give you a good introduction to many sport and leisure topics. It is the ideal course for people with limited or no achievement at GCSE, but who wish to study a vocationally relevant course in sport and leisure.
Course content
The Diploma consists of eight units and the Certificate consists of four. Topics covered in the full Diploma include:
• The healthy body
• Organising a sport or leisure event
• Starting work in sport and leisure
• Social responsibility at work
• Taking part in sport
To join the course
No formal qualifications are needed to join this course, although all applicants will be required to attend an interview and provide a satisfactory reference.
Course length
One year.
Methods of study
You will cover theoretical elements of the course in the classroom, with practical sessions in Bath Sports Centre.
Assessment
Practical assessments, presentations and written assignments.
Are there any extra costs?
Resources fee. You will also need to have suitable sports clothing - this will include the purchase of at least one College polo shirt. These need to be worn both in practical sessions and classrooms.
Combines well with
There may be an opportunity to re-sit maths and/or English language GCSE.
Moving on to another course or career
You can progress on to a Level 2 Diploma in Sport, Public Services or Travel and Tourism.
