BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Travel and Tourism
The aim of this course is to provide students with a general overview of the Travel and Tourism Industry with a view to preparing them either for employment in the industry or for progression on to the Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism.
Course content
The course consists of the following units:
• The UK Travel and Tourism Sector
• Understanding the nature and effects of world travel
• Understanding customer service in travel & tourism
• European travel destinations
• UK Tourism destinations
• UK Visitor attractions
Plus several other units.
To join the course
Four GCSEs at D or above including maths and English language.
Satisfactory references are also required.
Course length
One year.
Methods of study
PowerPoint presentations, group work, role-plays field trips, independent research, guest speakers and teacher-led sessions.
Assessment
Coursework/assignments, presentations and role-plays.
Are there any extra costs?
College fee plus a minimum of one uniform shirt that needs to be purchased. These shirts will be worn one day per week.
Combines well with
Business Studies and possibly GCSE re-sits.
Moving on to another course or career
Students who achieve a Merit pass may progress to the new BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism. They would also be able to find suitable employment within the industry either in a travel agency or in the hospitality sector.
