BTEC Level 1 in Business & Travel and Tourism
The course is an introduction to the foundations of understanding in the world of Business and the Travel & Tourism sector. Learners will gain an understanding of how firms in these different sectors operate and will gain much development of their employability skills. The course offers many opportunities to work alongside many local and national businesses.
Course Content
The course includes the following units:
• Unit 1 - The UK Travel Industry
• Unit 2 - The UK Tourism Industry
• Unit 3 - Customer Service in Travel & Tourism
• Unit 4 - Locational Geography
• Unit 23 - Ideas for a Small Business
• Unit 24 - Job Opportunities in Business Admin
• Unit 17 - Welcoming Visitors
• Unit 6 - Professional Behaviour in an Office Environment
• Unit 7 - Using Office Equipment
Learners will also complete Functional Skills English and a Work Skills qualification that is built into the main course.
To join the course
You will need 4 GCSEs at Grade E or equivalent.
Course length
One Year.
Methods of study
Classroom-based, with projects, reports, presentations, visits, guest speakers and working individually or in small groups.
Assessment
Assessment is varied and the team will embed a variety of relevant, fun and engaging practical activities and learners are required to pass an exam for Functional Skills English. The Awarding Body is Excel.

Moving to another course or career
Candidates can look to progress onto the CoBC Apprenticeship Scheme, Level 2 Diploma in Travel & Tourism or BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Business, or look to move into employment.
