Uniformed Public Services
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Uniformed Public Services
This course will develop leadership and team-building skills and provides an excellent foundation for a career in the Public Services. It will improve your personal fitness, self-confidence and self-reliance and is an ideal progression from the Level 2 Diploma. Designed for anyone interested in pursuing a career in the uniformed services, this course will help you to apply a range of practical skills and develop your knowledge and understanding of the uniformed services, e.g. Police, Fire, Ambulance, Armed Forces, etc.
Course content
18 units including:
• Physical preparation and fitness
• Team development and team leadership
• Citizenship and the public services
• Land-based skills
• Understanding discipline
• Crime and its effects
• Law and the legal system
• Outdoor expeditions (including
expeditions in wild country)
To join the course
Four GCSEs at grade C or above (preferably including English, Maths and Science); or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Public Services at Merit level; or equivalent qualifications. A satisfactory reference is also required along with the successful completion of an assessment day.
Course length
Two years.
Methods of study
You will cover theoretical elements of the course in the classroom, supplemented by practical application. You will go on a range of expeditions and visits outside of the College.

Are there any extra costs?
Resources fee. You will also need to purchase suitable polo shirts - this includes at least one College polo shirt in
blue and one in grey. These will be worn in practical sessions and classrooms.
Combines well with
There may be an opportunity to re-sit either Maths or English GCSE.
Moving on to another course or career
You will have the opportunity to progress to employment in the Uniformed Services Industry e.g. Police, Armed Services, Fire/Ambulance Service, Customs & Excise, etc. As this course is equivalent to three A-levels you will also be able to access Undergraduate courses at University.
