The City of Bath College has been providing education and training for more than 100 years. It offers pre-university, career-based and higher education courses to approximately 1,700 full-time and 5000 part-time students every year, including about 400 overseas students.

With its excellent facilities and commitment to education, the College offers a wide range of courses including art and design; AS/A Levels; business; children's care, learning and development; computing and IT; construction; catering; health and social care; sport; tourism; media and performing arts; refrigeration; English as a Foreign Language; teacher development; and the University of Bath Foundation Year.

The College is located in the centre of the World Heritage City of Bath and is minutes away from city centre amenities, the railway, bus and coach stations. It takes 90 minutes by train to London and it takes two and a half hours by coach to Heathrow. Bath is a lively, prosperous city with excellent facilities and a wide range of cultural activities. A number of international events are held each year, for example, the Music Festival, the Guitar Festival and the Film Festival.

Academic strengths

教育の特徴

To acknowledge its strength and commitment to high quality education, the College has won the National Beacon Award in Art and Design and has consistently been awarded Grade 1 in OFSTED inspection results in the Visual Arts. In addition, the College has been awarded the prestigious title of Centre of Vocational Excellence in Stonemasonry. It is also recognised as a Centre of Excellence for the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply courses, one of the professional based courses. Regarding the Higher Education courses, the College has received excellent inspection results. A recent inspection of courses in Computing and Engineering by the Quality Assurance Agency was highly successful with many commendable aspects for both courses.

Since 1998, the English as a Foreign Language courses have been accredited by the British Council. In 2003, the College received the Investors in People award.

Facilities

Our courses are taught in well-resourced classrooms with specialist facilities. Students can use all the facilities which include a well equipped learning centre, computer-aided learning facilities and free internet access in one of the cafeterias.

The newly refurbished learning centre is open from 0900 to 2030 on weekdays, Saturday mornings and during some holiday periods. Specialist facilities include beauty therapy studios, a hairdressing training salon, training restaurant, industry standard music recording studios, refurbished science laboratories and excellent art studios.

Students are at the heart of life at the College. In addition to providing high quality courses we firmly believe in giving our students a full range of student support services to enable them to succeed to the best of their abilities. All students have a personal tutor to guide them in their studies and advise them on progression routes including university entrance and careers.

The International Office team provide students with comprehensive support on various matters including opening bank accounts and registering with a doctor. We find accommodation for students either with host families or in shared student houses. The active Students' Union arranges a wide variety of activities which include regular sports events, local and national excursions and overseas visits. A full induction programme helps students settle and ensures that they have the information they need to make their stay as beneficial as possible.

FACILITIES

The College offers students a wide range of facilities giving students the opportunity to access a variety of resources. Last year, a newly refurbished Learning Centre was opened. In addition to a range of books, periodicals and other learning resources including audio and visual material are available together with direct access to United Kingdom and international information databases. There is also a full careers library and an advisory service. Well-equipped arts studios and a brand new Media and Performing Arts Centre, which includes music, media, dance and drama studios, have been opened to provide the very best facilities for students.

Other campus facilities include health and beauty salons, a student restaurant, café and shop. Once enrolled, students are automatically members of the Students Union, which organises a range of events. On payment of a nominal fee, students have access to the Leisure Centre, which includes a fitness and sports centre.

Most College full-time courses commence in September although September, January, April and July are the three main intake periods for international students studying on English Language courses.

There is a full induction programme on arrival, which tries to help newcomers to the College feel relaxed and settled during their first few days. Students meet their personal tutor who will guide and support them throughout their studies. All new entrants are given a welcome pack that provides advice on the College programme and on life in Bath.

The City of Bath College Students' Union arranges many social events, activities and trips throughout the year and the Arts Department puts on shows and performances.

The College is a member of UKCOSA - The Council for International Education. This enables the College to offer help and advice about general immigration matters, such as student visa extensions.

Full-time students are given details of how to register at a local doctor's surgery and with the police, if required. The College recommends that international students take out suitable health insurance while in the United Kingdom. International office staff help students with any questions which they may have and a student counsellor is available to help with any other personal problems.

Entry requirements differ for the wide variety of courses which are available at the College. In terms of English Language, the minimum requirement for GCSE, AS/A Level and BTEC diploma is IELTS 5.0 (academic modules) or equivalent. English Language entry requirements for Higher Education courses are higher.

I am an Iranian student currently studying on the University of Bath Foundation Year. The Foundation Year has helped me become familiar with the British system of education which is very different from my country. Also, it has given me the opportunity to become familiar with student life in England and make many good friends from all around the world. I am so glad to have chosen the Foundation Year because of several reasons: firstly, I do not need to take a 2 year A-level course. Secondly, I have got a guaranteed place at the University of Bath, one of the leading universities in the UK, as long as I meet the conditions required. Finally, Bath is a lovely city with breathtaking scenery which you never get bored of. I am sure that with all the good facilities and high quality teaching provided at the City of Bath College, I will be able to progress to the University of Bath to pursue a career in business management, which I have always dreamt of.
