If you wish to acquire the necessary stonemasonry skills to allow you to pursue a career in the construction and conservation industries, undertake private commissions or simply work stone for pleasure, we have courses from beginners to Advanced NVQ 3.
These courses contain practical masonry skills on a variety of stones, using different techniques, stonemasonry theory, geometry and practical drawing along with setting out and template making. You will produce a portfolio of evidence of your achievements.
Courses can be tailored to suit individual training needs with various attendance patterns including work based learning and Train 2 Gain options.
A banker mason is a production mason working dimensional stone units for new build and restoration projects. They will work all manor of stone types, but predominantly limestones and sandstones. The ‘Banker' is the table on which the mason works. He/she is referred to as a ‘mason' or a ‘banker mason', but not a ‘banker'.
A memorial mason produces headstones and letter cutting for the memorial trade. They will work various types of stone, but mostly granites, marbles, slates and hard limestones.
