Mentoring and Counselling
A Mentoring and Counselling Service is available for all students at the City of Bath College. It is a totally free and confidential service with professionals on hand throughout termtime and holidays to assist students with practical advice and guidance to aid them through varying situations in which some form of help is required.
What Can a Mentor Do for Me?
Ongoing support can include almost any form of help or advice, totally dependent on the individual student.
It could include:
• Working with students to solve problems
• Applications for Financial Support: e.g. EMA, Learner Support Fund or benefits
• Help with housing issues or finding part-time work
• Help with planning for coursework deadlines
• Sorting out problems with tutors or other students
• Accompanying students to meetings or appointments e.g. solicitors, benefits office etc.
• Advocating for students
• Problems with other students?
• Difficulties on your course?
• Worried about money?
• Other concerns?
You can arrange regular meetings to see a mentor at a time that suits you or drop-in to Student Participation offices on the ground floor of Macaulay.
What Can a Counsellor Do for Me?
If something is concerning you and you need someone to talk to, the Student Counselling Service is here to help. This confidential service is available throughout the year in the Macaulay Building.
You can use a counselling relationship in a variety of ways:
- to talk through a problem or difficulty
- because you feel stuck or confused, angry or sad, lonely or despairing
- to manage your concerns about your lifestyle, i.e. drugs, alcohol, study
- to improve your relationships with others
- to increase your self-confidence
- to explore changes or decisions you want to make
- You may only want to see a Counsellor for one session, or you may want to make a contract for a longer time; either choice is open to you
