The College
Why study at City of Bath College?
City of Bath College has been providing education for the local community of Bath and surrounding area since its conception as an educational institution in 1892. Throughout its past the College has taken on various forms, most recently Bath Technical College (the foundation stone can still be seen on our Avon Street Herschel Building), before becoming City of Bath College.
The College now has over 8000 students enrolled onto one of over 1600 full or part time courses. The courses are suitable for students of any age from 16 to 60, 19 to 90! As long as you have the enthusiasm and capability, the City of Bath College will be there to support and encourage you to achieve your goal. Courses available at the College cover levels 1 to 4, that's GCSE to undergraduate degree level.
In order to support our students allowing them to succeed, we provide learners with state-of-the-art facilities. We have brand new electrics, refrigeration, ceramic and glass design workshops. During this regeneration a huge new student common room has been created along with a new Students' Union, Careers Centre and counselling offices. A Blended Learning Centre has been created to allow students to experience and learn using different learning styles tailored to individual students needs. A massive refurbishment of IT facilities also took place. Included in this refurbishment project but off the main campus was the installation of a Blended Learning Centre at City of Bath College's bespoke Construction Skills Centre in Oldfield Park.
Prior to this project was the opening of the multi-million pound Music and Performing Arts Building (MAPA). Esteemed actor Simon Shepherd and acclaimed musician Peter Gabriel were present at the opening ceremony to perform the official duties. This centre provides professional standard studios, technology, rehearsal and performance space for our music, dance and drama students.
The students who choose to study AS and A Level benefit from a Sixth Form Centre and the exclusive use of our Westgate Building classrooms housed above the Student Advice Centre with course and finance advice, payments and enrolments under one roof to help students choose and enrol on the correct course.
The Allen Building houses most of the teaching areas for vocational courses such as Hospitality and Catering, Sports, Hair and Beauty and Travel and Tourism. On the ground floor is the student refectory serving refreshments from 8am until 2pm Monday to Friday and the Shrubbery Restaurant, a working restaurant open to the paying public, staffed and catered for entirely by students.
