Entry requirements
A levels and equivalents: normally a minimum of three relevant A levels, equivalent to 280 UCAS points or preferably higher. Five GCSE grade C passes which should include maths, English language, music or a relevant subject.
BTEC: an appropriate National Diploma, preferably with at least DMM grades.
Interview is by audition. You must bring a portfolio CD of original songs and be able to show songs that have been uploaded to the internet. You will sing/perform your instrument. You will get more information via the interview letter.
Mature and international students: considered on an individual basis taking into account validated access or bridging courses in appropriate subjects, accreditation for prior achievement, approved foreign qualifications.
The course aims to
- offer students the opportunity to develop as artists
- produce high quality recordings and performances which will meet local industry needs
- provide specialised experiential studies which are directly relevant to the music vocations/profession
- enable students to make an immediate or improved contribution in employment
- provide progression to higher educational studies
- develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes which will enhance their careers
- offer a route to higher education
- develop students ability to learn independently and to carry this forward for future career development
Course content
The programme comprises two core units together with six specialist units which will be achieved by attending college for three evenings per week and additional gigs in professional venues.
The course runs from September to July. Units are graded pass, merit or distinction and a student must achieve at least a pass grade in all units to be eligible for the award.
The course contains a mixture of level 4 and level 5 units.

Assessment
All assessment is by assignment e.g. performances, recordings, original songs, essay. There are no formal examinations. Students are required to play at least 10 external professional gigs.
Equipment required
All musicians need their own musical instruments and professional studio headphones. Singers need to bring in their own dynamic mic. Keyboards supplied.
After the course
Improve your career prospects and your earning potential. Progress to Higher Education e.g. a two year BMus(Hons) or BA(Hons) Music Degree.
Fees for 2012/13
